How we chose: we compared each tool on the criteria in our review process – e-commerce automations, Shopify integration, real cost as your list grows, support and contract terms – using vendors’ own pricing pages and Shopify App Store listings, checked October 20, 2026. We haven’t run paid accounts on all six tools; where we rely on public information, we say so.

What a Shopify store actually needs

Before comparing tools, decide what you’ll use. For most stores, a handful of automated flows do the heavy lifting:

  1. Welcome series for new subscribers, often with a first-order discount.
  2. Abandoned cart and browse abandonment reminders.
  3. Post-purchase follow-ups: thank-you, reviews, cross-sells.
  4. Win-back for lapsed customers.

Any tool on this list beyond the most basic setup can run these. The differences are price as your list grows, how easy flows are to build, and how much customer data you can segment on.

1. Omnisend – best overall for most stores

Omnisend is designed for e-commerce and includes all core features on every plan, including free (with Omnisend branding). Standard starts at $16/month ($20 at 1,000 contacts) with sends up to 12× your list size; Pro starts at $59/month for 2,500 contacts with unlimited emails (fair use) and adds a product recommender and dynamic content. SMS is pay-as-you-go, with US rates from $0.009 down to $0.007 per message, and Pro adds bonus SMS credits equal to your bill. Support is 24/7 live chat and email on every plan.

Omnisend

Best overall

Best for: Small and mid-size Shopify stores that want strong automations at a lower cost

Pros
  • E-commerce flows on all plans
  • Email, SMS and web push in one builder
  • 24/7 support on every plan
Cons
  • Less depth than Klaviyo for very large brands
  • Free plan shows branding

2. Klaviyo – best for scaling brands

Klaviyo is the default for many fast-growing brands and agencies because of its detailed customer data, segmentation and reporting. It’s also the most expensive here as lists grow: $30/month at 1,000 active profiles, $100 at 5,000 and $150 at 10,000, with text messages billed per send on top. Billing is based on active profiles, so list hygiene directly affects your bill. Details: Klaviyo pricing explained.

3. Shopify Messaging – best for brand-new stores

Shopify’s built-in app (formerly Shopify Email) gives you 10,000 free emails a month, then charges from $1 per 1,000. You manage it inside your Shopify admin and can create basic marketing automations. It’s the cheapest way to start; most stores move to a dedicated tool once they want more advanced flows and segmentation.

4. GetResponse – best if you also run webinars or courses

GetResponse combines email with landing pages and webinars. The Starter plan ($19/month at 1,000 contacts) doesn’t include e-commerce automations; Marketer ($59/month, or $48.38/month billed annually) adds abandoned cart recovery and product recommendations.

GetResponse

Best for: Stores that also sell courses, run webinars or need landing pages

Pros
  • Landing pages and webinars included
  • Abandoned cart and recommendations on Marketer
Cons
  • E-commerce features need the $59/month plan
  • Less Shopify-focused than Omnisend or Klaviyo

5. Brevo – best low-cost option

Brevo prices mainly by email volume, starting at $9/month (Starter) and $18/month (Standard, which adds unlimited automation workflows and removes Brevo branding). It connects to Shopify via an integration. Good for modest sending on a budget; less e-commerce depth than the tools above.

Brevo

Best for: Budget-conscious stores with modest sending volumes

Pros
  • Low starting price
  • Automation workflows on Standard
Cons
  • Less e-commerce-specific
  • Contact limits tied to volume on lower plans

6. Mailchimp – best if you already know it

Mailchimp’s free plan covers 250 contacts and 500 sends a month; Essentials starts at $13/month and Standard at $20/month (Standard unlocks full automation flows). It’s familiar and easy, but it’s a general-purpose email tool rather than one built around store data.

Bottom line

If you’re unsure, start with Omnisend’s free plan or Shopify Messaging to set up your welcome and abandoned-cart flows, then upgrade once email is producing revenue. Move to Klaviyo when your list and team are big enough to use its depth. Comparing the top two directly? Read Omnisend vs Klaviyo.
